xAI Raises $6 Billion Series C at $50 Billion Valuation
Elon Musk's AI company xAI closes a $6 billion funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, valuing the company at $50 billion just 18 months after founding. Funds will accelerate Grok development and supercomputer expansion.
xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence venture, has closed a $6 billion Series C funding round at a $50 billion valuation, making it one of the most valuable AI startups in history. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia Capital, Fidelity, and several sovereign wealth funds.
The funding will primarily be used to expand xAI's Memphis supercomputer facility, which currently houses over 100,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Plans call for scaling to one million GPUs by end of year, which would make it one of the largest AI training clusters in the world.
The capital will also accelerate development of Grok, xAI's AI assistant integrated into X (formerly Twitter). The company plans to launch Grok 3, which reportedly demonstrates significant improvements in reasoning and multimodal capabilities.
The valuation represents a remarkable trajectory for a company founded in 2023. Analysts attribute the premium valuation to xAI's unique distribution advantage through X's 600 million users and Musk's ability to attract top AI talent.
