OpenAI’s announcement confirmed strategic partners including Amazon, NVIDIA, SoftBank and Microsoft contributed the majority of finance to the funding round. There was also investment from global venture capital, hedge funds and private equity firms, as well as individual investors.
The impressive funding round comes with specific conditions. Amazon’s $35 billion contribution is contingent on OpenAI going public or reaching the technological milestone of artificial general intelligence.
OpenAI suggested the funding round is enabling broader ownership and allowing more stakeholders to share in the economic benefits.
The new investment is expected to contribute to more chips, data centres and talent to support business growth.
OpenAI is said to be securing revenue of $2 billion a month, with annual revenue of over $13 billion in 2025. The funding round positions OpenAI ahead of competitors, with Anthropic reporting a valuation of $350 billion, and xAI valued at $230 billion.
