The expansion will enhance West’s capabilities beyond component molding, device assembly and packaging, to include advanced automation and expanded drug-handling facilities.
West Pharmaceutical Services, a solutions provider in injectable drug administration has officially opened its new Damastown, Dublin location, which was announced in 2024.
330 jobs were initially created by the expansion of the 165,000 sq ft building, with 12 still currently available, as West aims to scale and grow in response to increased demand for treatments dealing with issues such as diabetes and obesity.
The expansion will enable West to significantly enhance its contract services, beyond component molding, device assembly and packaging to now include advanced automation and expanded drug-handling capabilities at a much larger scale.
Founded in 1923 and headquartered in Exton, Pennsylvania, West Pharmaceutical Services employs more than 10,000 people in 50 global locations, including 1,400 in Ireland across various locations.
“West is honoured to continue supporting our customers in providing reliable, high-quality drug delivery solutions and security of supply,” said Aileen Ruff-Patry, West’s president of contract manufacturing.
“This expansion increases our global capacity to support drug handling for high-volume injectable therapies, including next-generation GLP-1 treatments. This reinforces West’s role as a critical partner in helping to secure patient access to these essential medicines.”
The Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation Jack Chambers, TD added: “This announcement by West is an extremely welcome development for the local community and also for our vibrant national life sciences sector.
“The expansion here in Damastown, Dublin 15 has created 330 highly-skilled jobs to meet the increasing global demand for diabetes and obesity treatments, and patient-focused drug delivery solutions. These engineering and technical roles will provide exciting new career opportunities for local people including graduates of nearby universities.”
In December of last year, West Pharmaceuticals beat fellow finalists Deciphex and Integer Holdings to be crowned Medtech Company of the Year at the Irish Medtech Awards 2025.

Optimizing for efficiency with IBM’s Granite
We often judge AI models by leaderboard scores, but what if efficiency matters more? Kate Soule from IBM joins us to discuss how Granite AI is rethinking AI at the edge—breaking tasks into smaller, efficient components and co-designing models with hardware. She also shares why AI should prioritize efficiency frontiers over incremental benchmark gains and how seamless model routing can optimize performance.
