I recently designed a simple SQL challenge.

Nothing fancy. Just a login system:

Username Password Basic query validation

Seemed straightforward, right?

So I decided to test it with AI.

I gave the same problem to multiple models.

Each one confidently generated a solution. Each one looked clean. Each one worked.

But there was one problem.

🚨 Every single solution was vulnerable to SQL Injection.

Here’s what happened:

Most models generated queries like:

SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = 'input' AND password = 'input';*

Looks fine at first glance.

But no parameterization. No input sanitization. No prepared statements.

Which means…

A simple input like:

' OR '1'='1

Could bypass authentication completely.

💡 That’s when it hit me:

AI is great at generating code.

But it doesn’t always think like an attacker.

It optimizes for: ✔️ Working solutions ✔️ Clean syntax ✔️ Quick output

But often misses: ❌ Security edge cases ❌ Real-world exploits ❌ Defensive coding practices

After testing further, I noticed a pattern:

👉 AI rarely defaults to secure coding practices 👉 It assumes “happy path” inputs 👉 It doesn’t question unsafe logic unless explicitly asked

🔥 The real lesson?

The problem isn’t AI.

The problem is how we use it.

If you ask: “Write a login query”

You get a working query.

If you ask: “Write a secure login system resistant to SQL injection”

You get a completely different answer.

🚀 Takeaway for developers:

AI won’t replace developers.

But developers who understand: 🔐 Security 🧠 System design ⚠️ Edge cases

Will always outperform those who just copy-paste AI code. I Created a SQL Injection Challenge… And AI Failed to Catch the Biggest Security Flaw 💥
