The AI Professional Development Loop — and What It Devalues for Teachers
OpenAI. Illustration of Teachers in Professional Development Discussing AI and Pedagogy. 2026. AI-generated image. ChatGPT. This teacher’s social media feed has become a relentless loop of AI professional development ads, sandwiched between recycled prophecies about how edtech will “change education forever.” The sentiment has been repeated so often and with so little payoff that it’s lost its punch. Despite the constant cry for more training by multiple voices (often politicians, consultants and others outside of the classroom), I find myself craving the opposite: balance. I spent a year burning money on AI and finally decided to do something about it
I have been doing AI-assisted coding for over a year now. Maybe longer, depending on how you count the early months when I was mostly fighting with GPT-4 about indentation. I have used it for the kind of work that used to take me three days and now takes me three hours if I am honest with myself about what “done” means. And somewhere in that year I noticed something that nobody in the vibe coding community was talking about directly, even though everyone was dancing around it in their Slack channels and Discord servers and in the slightly embarrassed way people mention their monthly API bills. Some people burn through their tokens much faster than others doing the exact same work. That is not a trivial observation my friend. It sounds like it should be obvious, like pointing out that some

A meta-synthesis study on the use of artificial intelligence in primary education
This meta-synthesis analyzed qualitative studies on elementary students’ perspectives on AI. A comprehensive search identified 4756 studies. After screening, 23 studies were included in the meta-synthesis. A thematic synthesis approach was employed to analyze the qualitative findings. AI supported self-paced learning, autonomy, and motivation while providing individualized opportunities. Students held cognitively limited and simplified definitions. Affectively, students experienced positive emotions, such as curiosity and trust, as well as negative emotions, such as anxiety and fear. Students found AI enjoyable and easy, but reported challenges related to adaptation, technical and pedagogical barriers, data privacy, and ethical concerns. AI promoted equality of opportunity and participatio
